REDCOM - Réseau Européen de Dissémination en éducation Comparée (2003-2005)
Type of project/activity:
Creation of a multilingual/multimedia dissemination network of three academic
journals specialised in comparative education, published in three EU languages
and supported by an on-line observatory (www.e-education-europe.org).
Objectives:
REDCOM aims at creating an open, multilingual, multimedia network to disseminate
European research results and policies in education among
· the education research community by creating a resource base accessible
to all;
· policy-markers, professional associations and practitioners and
· a wider audience of actors in the field, industrialists/interest
groups/citizens.
REDCOM aims to make a significant contribution to the European Research Area and provide an effective tool to support the 6th Framework Programme in Social Sciences.
Background:
Building a European knowledge society requires profound change in education
and training. But change is slow and uncoordinated because appropriate information
on education research, policy and practice is not easily accessible to researchers,
policy-makers and practitioners across Member States.

Main activities:
Creation of an on-line Observatory specialised in European education research
and policies - a multilingual, interactive website (www.e-education-europe.org)
designed to provide a resource base for policy-makers and practitioners across
Europe. The Observatory will propose thematic dossiers providing summaries
of research findings, initiate policy debates among researchers and practitioners,
take stock of current developments in education research and identify new
issues.
Preparation of a joint issue, "Issues and Trends in Lifelong Learning
in Europe" to be published at the end of 2005 by the three Journals:
"European Journal of Education", "Politiques d'éducation
et de formation", "Die Hochschule".
Organisation of a joint seminar on the theme "Comparative approaches
in education, a key sector of the European Research Area" (planned for
March 2005). It will focus on the epistemological potential of the "comparative
approach", review selected TSER education projects and elicit future
themes to be addressed by the network of Journals.
