Jean Gordon is the Director of the Institute which she joined in 1989. She has wide experience in the comparison and analysis of education policies and systems throughout Europe and in the partner countries of the EU. Much of her work in recent years has focused on the development, analysis and dissemination of education and training policy at European level as well as in specific countries, regions and sectors. She is specialised in the development of lifelong learning opportunities through improving access to learning and its recognition, individualising pathways, transparency of qualifications in Europe, and developing qualification frameworks (at EU and national levels). She has undertaken many Europe-wide studies, including for the EU Commission, for all sub-sectors of education and training systems, on lifelong learning strategies and on a range of themes (such as learning outcomes, parity of esteem, mobility). In 2007 she was one of the authors of a 32 country study commissioned by the European Commission on how learning outcomes are integrated into education policy making in Europe for formal, non-formal and informal education.
She specialises in formative and qualitative monitoring and evaluation of innovative projects and of education systems and programmes. Jean has undertaken projects in the EU Member States, the candidate countries as well as in the Western Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa and also in Central Asia .
She is Joint Editor of the European Journal of Education for which she has designed and/or coordinated issues on futures of learning, intercultural dialogue, equal opportunities, internationalisation of education, qualifications frameworks, access to lifelong learning, well-being and education, etc. She is a member of the French education management organisation, the Association Française des Administrateurs de l'Education and on the editorial board of Administration et Education . She coordinates the work undertaken by the EIESP for the Universal Education Foundation the vision of which is to achieve “education by all for the well-being of children” and its purpose is to inspire and engage people from all sectors of society to listen more to children and young people and to take initiatives to make their learning environments more conducive to their well-being.

François-Xavier Chevrier is the Administrative and Research Assistant at the EIESP which he joined in 2000. He has worked in the education sector in France and for the University of Birmingham (UK). He also has experience in continuing education in France (GRETA, CUCES) and participated in the organisation of several cultural exchanges in Europe.François-Xavier Chevrier studied in the USA, the UK, Portugal and France. He obtained his BA in Languages and Business at the University of Wolverhampton (UK) and his Masters in Politics/European Studies at the University of Birmingham (UK). He undertook post-graduate studies at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in History and at the University of Nancy (France) where he studied Management. François-Xavier Chevrier is fluent in French, English and Portuguese. |
