Comparative study in Europe on the recognition and validation of non-formal and informal learning (2015)
The aim of the study on the recognition and validation of non-formal and informal learning was to identify models from other European countries that can serve as good examples for Germany to increase accessibility of vocational education and training for people with low formal qualifications. Eight countries that already achieved good results in the recognition of informal learning for people with low formal qualifications were selected: Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and UK. The analytic framework common to all countries includes: the legal context, institutions, procedures and instruments, support structures and financial support. The EIESP analysed the French system of VAE (Validation des Acquis de l’Expérience).
This comparative study was commissioned by the Bertelsmann Foundation. The Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training from Nürberg was entrusted with the implementation of the study. The EIESP contribution was led by Alain Michel and Janet Looney.
